Apollo the Sun Conure

Interesting Fact: The Sun Conure, native to the northeastern coast of South America, got its name because flocks of the birds looked like a beautiful sunset.

Apollo came to us from a breeder in Northern California just after he was weaned at five weeks old. A bacterial infection had caused neurological damage. As a result, Apollo had Parkinsons-type symptoms of excessive shaking and lack of balance.

We worked with Apollo every day for 3 weeks when he arrived and his balance improved.

His disability and disposition make him perfect for our animal assisted therapy program. Seniors enjoy his bright colors and since he can't perch, he is content to sit in their laps and be affectionate.
