Bert the Umbrella Cockatoo

Interesting Fact: Cockatoos, which can come from Indonesia as well as Australia, can grow to be a foot and a half long, and may live to be over 100 years old.

Bert, who doesn't like children, came to us from San Francisco after his owner of 10 years had a baby.

After several months of training, Bert was taught to ride on a perch in Rob's car. We took him to parks and outdoor cafes in Sonoma to get him used to people and unexpected noises as preparation for our animal assisted therapy program.

Bert enjoys seniors who are still and will sit in their laps or on their walker or wheelchair. He likes to be petted and stroked and will say, "I'm a good boy."

He also enjoys swinging upside down on our fingers or lying in Rob's arms like a baby.
